Thank you for wanting to learn more about me. I look forward to getting to know you.
Back in 1999 I fell into my career through my volunteer work with a women’s health organization. That was a long time ago. Like many of you, I learned about non profit management in the trenches, attending workshops, reading books, and accessing all the resources that The Association of Fundraising Professionals could offer. After five years working in this business I sat for (and PASSED) the Certified Fundraising Executive Examination. I have since been re-certified as a CFRE three times. In 2005 was honoured to receive the AFP Fundraising award for excellence in fundraising for a small organization.
I love all aspects of working in the charitable sector. However, I think there are four main areas where I love to contribute the most. They are:
- Helping volunteer boards work together with alignment, leading their organizations to excellence.
- Helping fundraisers and executive directors be more successful and happier in their work
- Interviewing major donors and helping to build what I call an engagement continuum that will keep inspiring them to make your charity their number one choice.
- Getting bequest programs up and running. Don’t wait! Start today!
In terms of thought leadership, I have been published internationally and nationally. I served as Editor of Canada’s leading weekly fundraising resource Hilborn’s Charity eNEWS for two years and was a member of the Advisory Council for the Rogare Think Tank in Plymouth University, where we did a comprehensive review of what “Relationship Fundraising” means and what the barriers are for charities who aren’t doing it. I’ve also served as Director of Education for the Planned Giving Council of Simcoe County and was a driving force in the early days of SOFII.org.
When I’m not travelling to conferences or visiting clients, I work from my home office in Barrie, Ontario. Usually my dog is sharing my chair, if he isn’t on my lap! My husband and I have a blended family with eight children, who at the time of this writing range in age from 10 – 22. This works well since we are both management consultants and have a pretty high capacity for dynamic environments! In fact, I fell in love with my husband the day he used a brown paper exercise, complete with coloured sticky notes, to plan out March Break!
When the kids don’t need us, my husband Rob and I love going to theatre, symphony and ballroom dancing (I think right now the Cha Cha is my favourite). We are sort of “culture vultures” to be honest. I enjoy connecting with nature by hiking and walking the dog and am even going to dive into kayaking this summer.
I took the leap to consultancy in 2014 and haven’t looked back! My clients have often commented that they feel inspired, unstuck, optimistic and hopeful after our time together. That is the impact that I would love to have with you! So let’s start where you are at, with a simple phone call and take it from there.
Feel free to check out my Linked In page for more details. If we have shared connections there I encourage you to ask around.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me. I look forward to getting to know you.
